SOME of the biggest names in Australian V8 Supercar motor sport stopped-off in Shepparton last week as part of a regional Victorian promotions tour.
Ford’s Mark Winterbottom and Holden’s Lee Holdworth and Michael Caruso pulled crowds into a blocked-off Fryers Street on Monday signing autographs for fans while encouraging all to get along to race meets this season.
“The sport has become very much a family orientated one,” said Winterbottom.
“When the Indy cars were around at Gold Coast, those kinds of events used to be very much thought of as being a boys’ weekend. Now, they couldn’t be any further from that. They provide a very friendly environment for all ages.
“It’s also a whole entertainment package. There are so many activities for kids and parents as well.”
The race meets will also host Disney Pixar CARS’ travelling truck attraction featuring ‘Frosty’, one of the film’s characters whose voice was played by Winterbottom himself.
“It was a lot of fun,” Winterbottom said of the movie’s recording but assures he has no plans for a change in career.
