City Coles store development
to begin in weeks

CONSTRUCTION of Vaughan Street’s $20 million Coles supermarket and shopping plaza development will begin within seven weeks property developer, Warren Thompson told The Adviser last week.
Demolition of the site’s former Ritchie’s IGA plaza and residential units facing Sobraon Street will start the development due for completion within 12 months.
The news comes less than a month after Greater Shepparton City Council released detailed plans for a multi-million dollar re-development of the Vaughan Street precinct.
The plans include removal of angle parking in the street’s centre with addition of trees and safer pedestrian crossings.
Thompson Property Group have agreed to contribute $255,000 to the streetscape overhaul.
“Council have been very good to us and have bent over backwards to see the plaza development get off the ground,” group Director, Warren Thompson said.
“We’re hoping the whole area will get a lift and this will become a really beautiful part of Shepparton.”
Mr Thompson said his company has already been approached by local and out-of-town retailers with expressions of interest in the plaza’s 15-20 specialty retail store allotments.
“We will be calling for expressions of interest in about four months time,” Mr Thompson said.
“It’s been very encouraging to see the level of interest that there is already.”
Mr Thompson explained that once vacated, the existing Coles supermarket in Vaughan Street will be re-developed into two retail shop allotments.
