Shepparton set to shine at exciting festival coming this March

SHEPPARTON will light up at the end of the month with an exciting new major event that is set to join the 2022 Shepparton Festival program.

The SAM Precinct and Victoria Lake Park will come to life for ‘Illuminate,’ a two-day celebration of the new Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) and the region’s creativity, innovation, and perseverance.

Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe said 2022 was shaping up to be a landmark year. She said, “This is a very exciting announcement for our leading innovative city with what will be a spectacular two-day light festival. The festival will provide even more reasons for people to visit our region as part of the Shepparton Festival.”

“The Shepparton Festival is about connecting our community to the thriving arts and culture scene in the region, and Illuminate will be a wonderful addition to create a full sensory experience incorporating lights, music, and food in a new way celebrating our new SAM and Victoria Lake Park.”

“It will also complement the upcoming White Night celebration, which we were recently awarded with, positioning Greater Shepparton as a leading regional Victorian city.”

10,000 attendees are expected to attend over the two days, giving a boost to local businesses and the visitor economy, while establishing Shepparton and as a vibrant destination with showstopping events.
Federal Member for Nicholls, Damian Drum, said the Illuminate festival had received $176,500 in funding under the Government’s Building Better Regions Fund.

“We are incredibly proud to help and assist with this event. It will be great to showcase what we all love here in Shepparton with an amazing opportunity to also hightlight SAM,” said Mr Drum.

Illuminate will come to life on Friday, March 25 at 6pm, and conclude Saturday night with an immersive lazer, light and sound show. Council is currently seeking food trucks to participate.
