ON a day of announcements, Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp, was in Shepparton last Thursday at the Maude Street Mall to officially announce the $3,750,000 funding by the State Government for Greater Shepparton City Council’s redevelopment project.
This is on top of the $8.5M being offered by the Federal Government on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
In announcing the new funding, Greater Shepparton City Council CEO, Peter Harriott, indicated that tenders will start to be issued as early as next week with construction likely to start before the end of the year.
Still to be finalised is the Fraser Street to Wyndham Street development. John Anderson, President of the Greater Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the Chamber is still negotiating with the Council on the final design.
Speaking at the announcement, Local Member of Nicholls, Damian Drum, said, “Malls across Australia repeatedly fail. The concept of having slow moving traffic and parking in a mall is new and is likely to have a positive impact on the success of the Maude Street Mall on completion.”
