THE Tatura Water Tower Mural Project has been named as Community event of the year for Australia Day Awards 2022.
The mural is a testament of the Anzac legacy, with a waterfall of remembrance poppies featuring on one side and a portrait of Sir John Monash on the other.
The Tatura RSL, led by President Robin Fairchild, have been working on the project for more than seven years which successfully resulted with an unveiling in June 2021.
The project, an initiative of the Tatura RSL led by past President Robert Mathieson, involved extensive work with the owner Goulburn Valley Water (GVW) as well as the Greater Shepparton City Council over many years.
A book has been written about the project and GV Water are preparing an interpretive board and adding lighting to the tower, so it becomes a beacon at night.
$45,000 for the project was raised through government grants and community fundraising to complete the mural.
To view the completed mural, visit Tatura’s water tower located on Murchison-Tatura Road, a few doors down from Lagozzino’s Top Pub.
