A wacky proposal

Dear Editor,
The site chosen for a social housing construction on Edward street Car Park, should have been the last possible site thought of. Every aspect of this idea is wrong. Adjoining residential and business areas, lack of green space for families, building on a site that is L shaped and including public parking in the design.

It all adds up to absolute lunacy in design and function. Many more appropriate sites are available in and around Shepparton. Small amounts of these units scattered around seem to work but this proposal has 30 units. This big number will only bring about the problems faced in large commission areas around town.

Ordinarily a wacky proposal like this would not have been taken seriously, but the last few years have seen massive amounts spent by Governments in this area, such as SAM, GV Health, CFA station, Railway Upgrades, GSSC and even the building of ACE college (that they now want to build this high rise next to). This has put enormous pressure on Council to toe the line with the State Government. Let’s hope common sense prevails.
