SHEPPARTON Foodshare are using their own funds to purchase land for their planned, fit-for- purpose ‘forever home’.
The crucial local service, which distributes vital food to those in need throughout our region, has seen demand increase dramatically since its inception in 2012.
With the Federal Coalition Government recently announcing $600,000 in funding for the organisation, the Liberal Member for Northern Victoria, Wendy Lovell, is calling on the State Government to match this amount to further ease the burden.
Speaking during the adjournment debate in State Parliament last week, Ms Lovell lauded the recently announced $600,000 Federal commitment and sought a similar pledge from Minister for Disability Ageing and Carers Anthony Carbines to help make the new home a reality.
“Shepparton Foodshare is a wonderful organisation that plays a vital role in helping the vulnerable and less fortunate members of our community. Their work during last years’ COVID-19 outbreak in Greater Shepparton was simply magnificent,” said Ms Lovell.
“It is now time for the Andrews Labor Government to provide matching funding to Shepparton Foodshare to build its new home and ensure the organisation can continue its vital work in the future.”
