SINCE 2014, Lift Off Education Scholarships have supported more than 100 local students into post-secondary education by helping to overcome financial and other barriers to their education dreams.

Lift Off Education Scholarship recipient Shaban Sulejman has made the most out of his opportunities by completing a Master of Science (physics), he has created innovative technology, has become an undergraduate teacher, and has taken on leadership roles in the science sector, at The University of Melbourne.

“The scholarship has had a significant impact on my personal and academic life. It has also offered me the opportunity to have invaluable interactions to present my work and tell my story, with the hopes of potentially inspiring others. Moreover, I was able to connect with the community with avenues of ground-breaking scientific research that can present new opportunities for the Goulburn Valley,” said Shaban.

As a part of Shabans Masters research project he developed two new imaging techniques known as ghost edge detection and ghost phase imaging. They are innovative approaches to capturing photos of objects without using an ordinary camera and can capture photos of objects using light that is invisible to us.

This remarkable young man has a big and bright future ahead of him. “There are so many people I need to thank for getting me this far. I hope I can make you all proud,” added Shaban.

“We couldn’t be prouder of Shaban and his achievements. His confidence has grown, and he is emerging as a leader and a positive role model for young people,” said Greater Shepparton Foundation CEO, Cheryl Hammer.

2022 Lift Off Scholarships are awarded to young people between the ages of 16-25 years. The current applications are currently being assessed and will be awarded in the coming weeks.
