RICHARD Colbeck, Federal Sports Minister, recently visited the region following an invitation from the Federal Liberal candidate for Nicholls, Steve Brooks.
Both Mr Colbeck and Mr Brooks received a thorough briefing by Greater Shepparton City Council officers on the planned Shepparton Sports and Events Centre during a tour of the stadium.
The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell gladly welcomed the recent visit after being a tireless advocate for State Government funding of the redevelopment for almost five years. In February, Ms Lovell again raised the matter with the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Martin Pakula.
Speaking in State Parliament last week, Ms Lovell highlighted the Federal Government’s interest in the project and said she was pleased that Mr Colbeck had seen the economic benefits the project would deliver to the Greater Shepparton region.
In seeking the $20M funding commitment, Ms Lovell also extended an invitation to Mr Pakula to accompany her on a visit to the stadium to see Greater Shepparton Council’s plans for Stage 1 of the Shepparton Sports and Events Centre.
“I call on Mr Pakula to contribute the State Government’s share of funding for the project and invite him to join me on a tour of the stadium to hear more about this exciting project,” said Ms Lovell.
