Regional rail taking shape

THE railway upgrade is travelling full steam ahead, with several updates completed already, enabling an extra 10 weekly services between Melbourne and Shepparton.

Upgrades to Mooroopna, Murchison East and Nagambie stations include upgraded asphalted car parks, with accessible parking spaces that are linked to the platform via new pedestrian paths, as well as lighting and CCTV.

Each station’s platforms have been extended to suit the longer V/Locity trains, which will enter service after stage two of the $436M Shepparton Line Upgrade is completed later this year. The extended platforms have been fitted with new lighting, seating and shelter.

Stage two, planned for completion later this year, includes 59 level crossing upgrades between Shepparton and Donnybrook. In Arcadia, five crossings have been made safer with boom gates, lights, safety bells and improved train detection technology activated.

The first stage was completed in April 2019. Stage three will enable nine daily return services and allow trains to travel faster on the line than ever before. This phase is targeted for completion in late 2023, with passengers riding V/Locity trains between Shepparton and Melbourne by the end of the year.
