THE Goulburn Valley hosts some of Victoria’s oldest family-owned vineyards, providing a fine snapshot of the state’s rich wine history only a stone’s throw away from the region’s centre.

Local wine labels made an impression at the 2022 Victorian Wine Show said Paul Phillips, proprietor of Phillips Cellars and Regional Wine Centre.

“Local producers have brought in some gold, silver and bronze medals. So, the judges have spoken, indicating that our local wines are performing on the big stage,” said Paul.

“The Strathbogie Ranges’ cooler climate varietals are outstanding, particularly Riesling, Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio. Down on the valley floor, our shining light is our full bodied Shiraz.”

Phillips Cellars are proud to represent 45 local wineries and more than 300 local wines, which have each earned a fabulous reputation for their taste and uniqueness.

For the best local Shiraz, Paul recommends Maygers Hill, Tallis and Longleat. Those that prefer white wines should try Allira, Wine by Sam and Antcliff’s Chase Riesling.

“The King Valley is a hidden pocket producing some of the best value small region wines around,” said Paul.

“Gapsted, Politini, Pizzini, John Gehrig and Dal Zotto produce some Italian wines at the top of their class.”

Paul and his knowledgeable team can direct you to the drop that suits your taste or needs. They also sell a large range of home brew supplies and local labels, perfect for gifts or entertaining.
