IN accordance with the introduction of the State Government’s Waste and Recycling Policy, the Greater Shepparton City Council has set out its expected time frames for the roll out of changes to the current waste collection service in the region.

Beginning in March 2023, Kialla and Tatura residents will have their red bin collection reduced to once per fortnight while the green bin will be collected weekly to minimize bin contamination as well as ensure Council remains on track in meeting State Government targets.

With a seamless transition in mind, the staggered changes will see the rest of the region follow suit approximately six months later, and ahead of the implementation of a fourth, purple lid bin in March 2024.

The purple lid bin will be used for the collection of glass.

Acknowledging that Council would need to undertake significant community education about the kerbside changes, Mayor Shane Sali said, “Council has a responsibility to abide by the State Government’s Waste and Recycling Policy which means these changes have to be made.

“This project plan has been developed to work through each step of the roll out and ensure these changes are made in the most efficient and suitable way,” Mayor Sali said, before adding, “Council will undertake a substantial amount of community education and engagement from early next year to ensure residents are aware how and when changes will take place. Community education is a huge part of the transition.”

The State Government Waste and Recycling Policy is designed to have a significant and positive impact on the environment by reducing the amount of waste going into landfill.
