Mooroopna welcomes North End Bakehouse: A new chapter for a beloved bakery

AWARD-WINNING North End Bakehouse has opened a new store in Mooroopna, taking over the former Billy’s Bakehouse. Owner Matt began his baking apprenticeship here in 2006 and worked for nearly eight years honing his skills.

North End Bakehouse, renowned for its vanilla slices and hot cross buns, brings delicious baked goods and a fresh vibrancy to the quieter end of Mooroopna. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the business, which started as Mooroopna Hot Bread in 1974. Shekiah and Matt Aylett are now the 10th owners of the bakery.

The bakery holds the title of ‘Australia’s Best Vanilla Slice 2023 & 2024’ and has also won ‘Australia’s Best Hot Cross Bun’ for 2021, 2022 and 2024. They have also placed 2nd and 3rd for Vanilla Slice in 2017, 2019, 2022, and earned top spots for ‘Innovative Hot Cross Bun’ and their Vanilla Slice at the Victorian Baking Show in 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023.

Kiah & Matt aim to expand to more locations, increase local employment, and give back to the community through their delicious creations and business acumen.

Visit the Shepparton store at 2 Grant Court, open Monday-Friday, 7am-4pm, and the Mooroopna store at 52 McLennan Street, open Monday-Friday, 7am-4.30pm, and Saturdays 8am-2pm.
