Ensuring your fourby is tip top

IT goes without saying that when it comes to hitting the open road, it’s important to make sure all your bells and whistles are in order on your four–wheel drive.

Whether you’re heading to your favourite peaceful fishing spot, camping with the family or off–roading with your mates, preparing for a 4WD road trip should always begin with a quick once–over to ensure your vehicle is tip–top, including checking that all recovery gear is in good working condition.

Below is a simple inspection checklist to help you out:

  • Check engine fluids & top up
  • Inspect fan belts and hoses for wear and tear
  • Check auxiliary battery still holds charge
  • Check tyres air pressure and tread at a local service outlet and don’t forget a spare
  • Check brakes, ensuring they’re clean & in good working condition
  • Check brake lights are working
  • Inspect suspension
  • Inspect bullbar, mirrors, recovery gear and other accessories to make sure they’re fully attached and in working order
  • Check and respool your winch
  • Check lights are in good condition and are installed and wired properly
