Member for Shepparton District Kim O’Keeffe has called on the Minister for Transport Infrastructure, Gabrielle Williams, to provide answers as to when they would be activated.

“Our community was told by the Allan Labor Government that these lights would be activated following the completion of Stage 3 of the Shepparton Line Upgrade. Given that the project was completed in December last year, the lights have been sitting inactive and covered up for the last five years,” she said.

Speaking in parliament, Ms O’Keeffe said the issue is a matter of community safety. She said the busy intersection was difficult for both cars and pedestrians to navigate.

“This is just ridiculous and an unacceptable situation. The Shepparton Line Upgrade was promised to be completed back in 2023 and only completed in December 2025 two years over the scheduled timeframe, and we still have further ongoing delays.

“Now that the Shepparton Line Upgrade is completed, the Minister and government need to turn these lights [on] as the community was promised five years ago and provide the additional weekday and weekend services.

“What we need is for these lights to be turned on and increased service delivered as promised.”
