Mobile phone safety alarm

Australia will conduct a nationwide test of its new AusAlert emergency warning system on Monday, July 27 at 2pm AEST. Compatible mobile phones will emit a loud 10-second siren, vibrate, and display a text message, even if on silent of Do Not Disturb.

No action is required, as this is only a system trial. Because the alert functions as a critical notification and cannot be easily opted-out of, authorities advise turning your phone off or switching it to Airplane Mode before 2pm if the sudden loud noise could compromise your safety or wellbeing, such as for individuals with hidden domestic violence devices.  To learn more, visit the AusAlert website.
