WITH less than 90 days until the State Election, Greater Shepparton City Council have outlined their priority areas for investment.
The 2026 Victorian State Election Priorities document includes key projects Council is advocating for, including:
The Shepparton Sports and Events Centre, asking for a $37M investment comprised of $12M from the State Government, $15M from the Federal Government, with Council contributing the remaining $10M.
Greater Shepparton Road Network Resilience Package, including funding for a second Goulburn River bridge, road enhancements and intersection upgrades, and increased funding for local road maintenance and investment, totalling $83M.
Regional Health Infrastructure investment of $125.7M to deliver an Integrated Cancer Centre and Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at GV Health.
A Fit-for-purpose Bus Transport Network Review, requesting that the State Government commit to and fund a comprehensive review, redesign and implementation of Greater Shepparton’s bus network.
A new priority project is to develop the Northern Victoria Institute of TAFE (NVITAFE) Regional Trades Training Centre at the former McGuire College. The $15M investment ask would establish an integrated trades training hub with dedicated automotive and electrotechnology training facilities.
Council is also supporting Regional Cities Victoria’s (RCV) call for a dedicated $1B Regional Growth Fund. In Greater Shepparton, Council would seek to funding the following projects via the future fund: GV Link Enterprise Park Stage 2, Kialla West Growth Area enabling infrastructure, and Banmira Specialist School Stage 2, unlocking housing, jobs, investment and economic growth.
Deputy Mayor Councillor Geoff Akers said Council is seeking investment to manage growth that is already happening.
“Our region has an important role to play in Victoria’s future. We have the capacity to deliver more housing, attract new residents, create jobs and support key industries, but we need the infrastructure and services to match,” he said.
