ONE of the largest and most significant housing developments currently underway in the region officially broke ground this morning, with the first sod turned on the $205 million Parkers Grove estate in Shepparton.

The milestone marks the start of a major residential project expected to deliver 650 housing lots and help address growing demand for new homes across Greater Shepparton.

Greater Shepparton Mayor Cr Geoff Akers joined representatives from Goldfields and newly appointed civil construction partner Winslow to celebrate the commencement of works on the estate. The development will transform the historic former Parker pear orchard site and is the first residential project approved under the Shepparton Southeast Precinct Structure Plan.

Located about nine minutes from Shepparton’s CBD, Parkers Grove will feature a one-hectare central park, wetlands and walking trails. Future plans for the surrounding precinct include a government school, convenience centre and sporting fields.

Goldfields national director of communities Paul Cicchiello said the development would provide much-needed housing while generating local employment opportunities and supporting the region’s population growth.

“Parkers Grove will honour Shepparton’s rich heritage as Australia’s food bowl, carrying the legacy of this former pear orchard into a new chapter of regional growth and thriving community life,” Mr Cicchiello said.

He said strong early interest in the estate reflected confidence in the local property market and continued demand for quality housing options.

Mr Cicchiello also highlighted Goldfields’ commitment to local infrastructure improvements, including upgrades to nearby Channel Road aimed at improving traffic flow and safety.

Stage 1 of the development is expected to title in the third quarter of 2027, with lots already on the market.
