A message from Jeremy Rensford, Chair of Greater Shepparton Ministers’ Association
Sharing. It’s not something that comes naturally to humans! For example, put a single fun toy in the middle of ten toddlers and leave them to their own devices and see what happens. Unfortunately, we adults can sometimes be no different all these years later. I heard of a punter that quipped “The horse everyone will keep backing is self interest”.
Continuing my reflections of a recent trip to rural Africa, I saw glimpses of hope at how being unselfish and community-minded can give opportunity for transformational societal change. The minister’s group there has a table banking arrangement. Essentially everyone puts their own money on the “table” sharing the little they have to be made available to whoever in their group is in need. One will take their share at that time, repay with modest interest, and more are eventually available for each member to draw on in their time of need. What a wonderful contrast to corrupt leaders that are found everywhere including in their locale.
Jesus was the epitome of someone who shared and was unselfish. His entire life was lived in service to others. He had these golden instructions for us and led by example – “It is more blessed to give than receive” & “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you”.
May we take inspiration from His teaching, but even better, His personal example.
Blessings, Jeremy
