A dangerous body of water directly across from Shepparton Sports Stadium on Numurkah Rd and next door to Pat & Tina Service Station is cause for concern as a drowning hazard and rubbish dumping ground.
Young people leaving the sports stadium often attempt to cross over the murky water, using supermarket trolleys to form a dangerous, makeshift bridge so they can cross.
Rubbish is strewn throughout the channel of water and when the warmer weather hits the stench is reported to be almost unbearable.
“Really the smell is awful in summer, it’s an open body of water instead of running through a pipe or having some sort of steel or concrete cover on it and people use it as a rubbish bin, it really is disgusting,” said Pat & Tina’s BP Service Station owner, Joe Di Conza.
While the surrounding grass is maintained, the drain is untouched with no official bodies assuming responsibility for the management of the issue.
“We have gone back and forth with the Council, with Goulburn Murray Water, sent photos, we have done everything in our power to get this sorted out and nothing has been done. No-one wants to step up and help get this sorted.
“The north end of Shepparton is getting busier and busier but seems we are neglected while there is so much spent on improving and developing other parts of town,” said Mr Di Conza.
Providing a solution for this point of contention shouldn’t arise after an accident or a child being harmed, there is a chance to resolve this before it’s too late.
