AUSTRALIA Day Celebrations in Mooroopna will be held at W.B. Ferrari Park on Thursday, January 26, from 10.30am.

This year’s program includes an acknowledgment of the Traditional Owners, a flag raising ceremony followed by the national anthem. Australian music and songs will be performed by Cindy Doherty and Australian poetry recited by Des Ginnane.

The community will hear from keynote speaker, Jeanette Powell AM, who has been president of the Shepparton Shire, Member for Northeastern Province then Member for Shepparton in State Parliament.

She immigrated to Australia with her parents as a child, and before entering parliament, Jeanette worked in several positions including television presenter, marketing and sales, office manager and director of the family auto-electrics business.

Local people will be honoured with the Australia Day Awards presented to this year’s recipients.

There will also be a free sausage sizzle and refreshments presented by the Kiwanis Club of Mooroopna and Greater Shepparton City Council, with support from Rotary Club of Mooroopna, Mooroopna Guides and Scouts. Be sure to check out the vehicle display by Goulburn Valley Motor Vehicle Drivers Club.
