YOUNG players relished being back on court when Kyabram Youth Club’s Summer Basketball competition resumed last Monday. There were no more excited players than Indi Kent and Mason Davis who were the top scorers across all grades for the night. Mason shot 30 points for Hornets in the Prep-1 boys division, and Indi also had a 30-game in the girls Grade Prep-4 division for Gators.

Other leading scorers across the grades were:

Prep/1 – Nate Carmody (26), Hunter Bergman (12), Oliver Edwards (8), Joshua Ciavarella (6), Aiden Dennis (6)

Grade 2/3/4 – Benny Barnes (21), Wes Smith (14), Alex Yaragin (12), Ryan Carmody (8), Ryder Morris (6)

Girls Prep-4 – April Wilson (18), Charli Simm (8)

Ben Chapman, Sam Bruhn and Cyhril Cullinan were top scorers in the boys Grade 6/Year 7/8 division.

A great compliment was paid to one of the competition’s young referees Selina O’Brien who was noted on a scoresheet that she was “fantastic at explaining to kids their fouls. Great work!”

Kyabram Youth Club is bringing basketball back to its community. Basketball was lost when the town’s basketball association ceased to exist about 20 years ago. The Club’s aim is to give Kyabram and district basketball enthusiasts an opportunity to play organised competitions and games in their own town again.

Adults play Sunday afternoons at 4pm and 5pm, and primary and secondary aged girls and boys play on Mondays from 3.30-7.30pm. A pre-school learn-to-play for boys and girls is also on Monday evenings.

For information on how to join Kyabram Youth Club’s basketball offerings, go to www.kyabramyouthclub.com. Kyabram Youth Club is a not-for-profit organisation which has been working since 1950 for the betterment of youth.
