GREATER Shepparton City Council, in association with the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, presented the Biennial Greater Shepparton Cultural Heritage Awards 2021 on Saturday May 1, 2021. The ceremony took place at the Goulburn Valley Hotel.

The ceremony recognised the outstanding contributions to cultural heritage conservation, research, education, promotion, interpretation, training and awareness-raising across the municipality.

All nominations received by Council were assessed by a judging panel, and the winners honoured with an award.

Categories relating to buildings and sites including reuse of a heritage place, restoration of a heritage place, and maintenance of a heritage place were among the list.

Further categories included interpretive signage, substantial research publication, smaller publication (booklet, software application, etc) and community, multicultural or indigenous event or tourism contribution relating to Greater Shepparton heritage.

In spite of the challenges imposed by COVID-19, the quantity and calibre of nominations received by Council were exceptional and exemplify Greater Shepparton’s impressive contribution towards the preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

The Awards Ceremony coincided with the Australian Heritage Festival, which celebrates the theme of ‘Our Heritage for the Future’.
