OCTOBER is a great time to get out, try something new and connect with others, with Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre (MEAC) offering a program of free and low-cost activities throughout Seniors Month.
ONE of the highlights will be a special ‘Kidnapped Teacher Talk’ with Kyabram author Rob Hunter, who will share the story behind his novel Day 9 at Wooreen. The book recounts the ninth day of Rob’s teaching career at Wooreen, when he and nine students were kidnapped at gunpoint in 1972 by Edwin John Eastwood in what became known as the Faraday School Kidnapping.
MEAC’s ‘Be Connected’ focus includes a presentation on scams and artificial intelligence on October 21, offering practical advice for staying safer in an increasingly digital world.
The program also includes a presentation on Seniors Rights on October 7, covering topics including elder abuse, support services, money, ageing and family.
On October 14, ‘The Farewell Lounge’ will provide a safe and compassionate space to talk about and plan end-of-life wishes, while a free gut health and ageing workshop on October 12 will explore nutrition and include healthy snacks.
