Brumbies found dead in Barmah

SHAME... One of several deceased brumbies found covered with branches at Barmah on May 31. Anyone opposed to this management should meet activists at Parliament today at 1pm to oppose these actions. Photo: Murray Willaton.

WHAT a deceitful, sneaky organisation are Parks Victoria and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning under the control of Lily D’Ambrosio?
The Barmah Brumby Preservation Group put together a small six person search party on Wednesday, May 31, and found another 21 brumbies shot and then pathetically covered over with branches and sticks.
We searched about 4,000 acres on foot in the sleet and wind. Imagine how many more have been shot in the whole 77,000 acres of the Barmah National Park.
These authorities tell our group in meetings that they are going to start trapping in late April. So, we need to be ready to start accepting these horses. While we are at the sanctuary doing preparations to accept large numbers of brumbies, acting in ‘good faith’, those low lives are sneaking around the bush shooting. No wonder they only trapped for a week and left.
Why are they shooting these heritage brumbies when a ‘World class sanctuary is waiting for them just down the road.’
Shooting them and covering them with sticks and leaving them as wild pig food in a National Park is disgusting.
It is bewildering how Ministers and high-level government managers could think of doing this. Did you really think that using sticks would cover up this behaviour?
