LOCAL builders, Hansen Yuncken have donated $10,000 to Shepparton Foodshare. Hansen Yuncken, who are building the new Greater Shepparton Secondary College (GSSC) campus, reached out to Shepparton Foodshare with funds following the local COVID-19 crisis.

Jeremy Rensford, chair of Shepparton Foodshare thanked Hansen Yuncken, “Your support came at a time when our community was in crisis due to the recent coronavirus outbreak here in Shepparton. This outbreak saw around one third of our town in quarantine, many unable to work, to obtain food and cut off from their family, friends and support networks.

“Your donation had a direct impact on these people enabling us to purchase and pack necessary food staples for them, and it will continue to assist by keeping our food distribution operations going while our community recovers and adapts to life as we know it now.”

Shepparton Foodshare receives no regular financial support and relies on its own fundraising efforts and generous financial donations, such as Hansen Yuncken’s, to keep their critical operations going.

Hansen Yuncken has maintained a local office in Shepparton for over 96 years, and has been building in regional Victoria since 1925. With such a long-standing connection to the regional centre of Shepparton, Hansen Yuncken’s senior project manager, Tom Cumming, said:

“We recognise the hardship many families have experienced through the recent lockdowns across Shepparton. To bond everyone together during this difficult time and help families bring food to their tables, we have made a $10,000 donation to Shepparton Foodshare. As a family business, with many of our longstanding staff from the Shepparton region, naturally we care and support other families in need.”

When the money was presented to Foodshare on Monday, November 22, 11 trees from Billabong Nursery were planted in the school’s central courtyard by Hansen Yuncken, making a huge day of progress for the new school and for the community who benefits from these services.
