Bus tour of Shepparton

SHEPPARTON Ethnic Council’s Cultural Bus Tour has been running since 2011 and it was designed with the idea of helping the wider community to learn more about Shepparton’s diverse multicultural communities. So far, more than 1,000 participants have benefited from this unique program.

Sam Atukorala, strategic engagement coordinator (Goulburn Region) with the Ethnic Council of Shepparton said, ” These tours would not be possible without the great support from Rumbalara, Turkish Mosque, Afghan Mosque, Gurdwara Sahib (Sikh temple) and Iraqi Mosque and we would like to thank their elders, religous/community leaders and volunteers for their ongoing support.

“For participants, these tours provide an opportunity to learn about the cultures/religions from newly arrived communities and also Australia’s oldest culture, our indigenous culture.

“This also provides a platform for new and emerging communities in Shepparton to showcase their cultures and religions, break cultural barriers and build sustainable relationships, said Sam.

“For some of the previous participants, this tour was the first time they have had any interaction with some from a new and emerging communities.”

The proposed tour will be on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 which starts at the Ethnic Council at 9:00 am and finish around 3:30 pm.

The tour takes in Rumbalara, Iraqi Mosque, Turkish Mosque, Afghani Mosque and the Gurdwara Sahib (SIhk temple). A lunch will be provided at the Turkish Mosque.
