SPEAKING during the first sitting week of State Parliament for 2022 last week, Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has again pushed for the state government to support Med-Con, highlighting the company’s efforts supplying face masks to health agencies around the country during the height of the pandemic.

In her contribution Ms Lovell said that since that time, the Andrews Government has walked away from Med-Con, instead purchasing cheaper imported masks.

After Ms Lovell raised the issue several times throughout 2021, the State Government finally requested a quote from Med-Con to supply two million masks, only to place an order for one million but demanded the price quoted on the larger quantity.

Ms Lovell said that the Government’s recent announcement that they plan to add an additional 30 million surgical masks to the State’s stockpile was a perfect opportunity to purchase from Med-Con, but no approach had been made to the manufacturer to contribute to this procurement.
