NATIONAL Homeless Week runs until Sunday, August 9, and the Salvation Army in Shepparton are again at the forefront of promoting awareness of the issue in the area.
Today, Wednesday 5, they are holding Care Day at the Salvation Army Church on the corner of Nixon and Orr Streets, from 10am to 3pm. People experiencing homelessness can receive free treatments from services including haircuts and beard trims, dental checks, mental health check-ins, and a community nurse providing general health checks.
Attendees will also be treated to a roast lunch as part of the Community Meal program run by the Salvation Army Corps.
Walking Home will once again be held at Victoria Park Lake, on Friday, August 7, beginning at 11am.
The event aims to increase awareness of homelessness as a prominent issue nationally, but also locally. The event will welcome youth services, homelessness services and politicians, as well as students from Shepparton secondary schools, with a free sausage sizzle.
