“COVID has had a significant impact on business in Greater Shepparton and it’s important with the newly introduced complimentary car parking, that people abide by the rules, particularly as the all-important Christmas trading period is underway, “Shepparton Chamber of Commerce & Industry president, John Anderson said.

John added, “the complimentary timed car parking recently implemented is a big bonus to Shepparton, however the Chamber has had feedback that some traders and employees are taking up valuable car parks designed for their customers”.

The question was asked, “do we have to get to the point where people will need to be reported to Council officers to stop this behaviour from continuing?” John said.

“Car parks equate to shoppers and therefore business viability”, John said.

Council launched complimentary on-street parking (Council owned off-street carparks are already free) at the beginning of

November and while time limits still apply and infringements will be issued for cars exceeding the time limits, this is a very positive joint initiative to encourage more shopping in the city, it’s a great outcome, but it’s not for business owners and employees to park outside their business, these spaces are for their customers.

The complimentary timed parking initiative is being held over four months ending on 28th February, 2022.
