Daylight saving comes to an end

THIS weekend brings on the long cold winter and there are two things we need to do on Saturday night.

The first is to wind back clocks one hour giving you an extra hour of sleep-in Sunday, next up is checking our smoke alarms are in working order.
Firefighters are urging Victorians to check their smoke alarms are in good nick this weekend, even better before heading off on a trip.

Fire Rescue Commissioner Ken Block said it was equally important to test smoke alarms and clean them regularly.

“It’s no good having a smoke alarm installed if it isn’t working – a smoke alarm that is properly maintained can save your life if there is a fire,” Commissioner Block said.

“It only takes a few minutes to clean and then test your smoke alarm by pushing the test button.”

When turning your clocks back this weekend, ensure your smoke alarms are given a good once over.
