THERE are many inspirational women in the Goulburn Valley, who live locally and work in the many great businesses that make our region a wonderful place to live.
A Shepparton institution, GV Hotel general manager, Margie, has managed the hotel for 38 years and loves the opportunities the hospitality industry affords women.
“Because that’s the thing about hospitality, there’s such a full range of jobs and you can travel with it. If you can work behind a bar and you can carry a conversation, you’ll get a job anywhere,” said Margie.
Bistro supervisor Wendy McDonald, has worked with the team for 14 months in total and is a breast cancer survivor. She commends Margie and the rest of the staff for being so supportive and understanding during her journey.
“I am beyond grateful for everyone’s support. This is my first foray into the hospitality industry, and I really enjoy it. Every day is different,” said Wendy.
Michelle Swanson is a junior manager and praises the benefits of working for such an understanding employer.
Michelle is refreshingly open about her mental health battles and took a hiatus from the hospitality industry to study a diploma of beauty therapy.
“This industry allows workers a chance to take breaks for personal and professional development, I’m back now but it was really great to study something different and have that added to my skill set,” said Michelle.
