CONSTRUCTION works are steaming ahead as planned with the short stretch of Maude Street, Shepparton between High Street and Vaughan Street, in the last days of completion.

With the works having taken place from February through to April, blocking off the through traffic, the additional works on the Maude Street side on the 30m section only has the last finishing touches to go.

Traders of over 17 years in the precinct, Jacek and Bozena of JB Jewellers, are thrilled to see the work almost finished.

“This section of the road looks great. It’s really given the space a face-lift, thankfully now the footpath is easily accessible and the foot traffic has increased,” said Bozena.
Jacek and Bozena are very glad to see more shoppers coming through their doors and believe once all the works are complete, the CBD shopping precinct will make buying local even easier.

“It looks nicer, it’s a very modern, European design. The Council have communicated they will be putting in established shrubbery to bring colour to the area, we are really looking forward to that,” said Jacek.

“All the workers who completed the project were so friendly, so organised and efficient. They worked so hard, through bad weather and lockdowns and got the job done. Such a brilliant effort.”

The works will see the function and visual amenity of the area improved with returning traffic while ensuring its primacy as the heart of the Shepparton CBD is maintained.

Maude Street Mall works begin
Low speed one-way traffic will return on Maude Street, from Fryers Street to High Street, with parallel parking spaces along both sides of the roadway. A new playground will be installed along with new street furniture and low garden beds to improve the streetscape and amenities for residents and visitors. The playground will be one of the first activities which could be ready by Christmas this year. The full redevelopment is scheduled for completion by late 2022.

The Maude Street Mall redevelopment is jointly funded by the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, the State Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund and Council contributions.
