UNITING collectors and history buffs to buy, swap and sell items of their collecting and historical interest, the Militaria & Collectables Expo returns to the McIntosh Centre (Shepparton Showgrounds) Saturday and Sunday, March 4-5.

Avid collector and proprietor of the Dookie Emporium, Sol Sutherland knows well the sentiment behind finding treasures.

“For me, these are useful items, and the history of useful things,” reflected Sol, explaining how historic items and especially those related to conflicts, carry unique meanings and connections for different people. His collecting has been driven by his fascination with the past and passion for the outdoors.

“When you went camping in the Scouts, you picked up a canvas tent from Army Disposals. Growing up I had always wanted an army hat, so I saved up my three dollars – this is in the 70s – and purchased a hat from Jimmy Wong’s Army Disposals in Shepparton.”

Run by the Northern Victorian Arms Collectors Guild, previous years have garnered over 900 in attendance. Returning to a new venue in 2023, this expo is set to be even bigger with more exhibitors than you can poke a bayonet at.

There will be 54 dealers amongst 210 tables selling and showing historic artefacts like guns, knives, swords, uniforms and related paraphernalia.

Tickets are $10 with free entry for people aged 16 and under, if they are accompanied by an adult.
