ROAD safety week is coming up this month and RoadSafe Goulburn Valley is giving families the chance to win a helmet and professional fitting, plus a drink bottle, generously donated by Leading Edge Cycles Shepparton.

A correctly fitted helmet is one of the most common-sense ways to stay safe while riding a bike. It is especially important for kids because helmets significantly reduce the risk of head injuries, which are a leading cause of serious injuries and fatalities, especially in children.

The winner of the competition will be drawn at Greater Shepparton City Council’s free community event for National Road Safety Week, held Sunday, May 18 at Victoria Lake Park.

Delivered in partnership with the council, Roadsafe GV and emergency services, the Walk for Road Safety event will run from 10am to 3pm, with family-friendly activities, giveaways, guest speakers and opportunities to interact with emergency services. ONE FM will be broadcasting during the event and will announce the winner of the competition.

The main community walk or wheel activity will commence at 12pm and encourages community members to walk or wheel around on your bicycle, wheelchair or mobility scooter. Participants can also honour the lives that have been lost and forever changed by road trauma by placing a wish card on the hill at Victoria Park Lake.

To enter, children can search this newspaper edition for RoadSafe GV’s safety mascot, Addy, pictured throughout the pages. Send your answer and contact details on an envelope to The Adviser, delivered in person to Level 2, 30-40 Welsford Street, Shepparton, or posted to Newspaper House PO Box 1664, Shepparton VIC 3630. Entries close Friday, May 16. The competition is only open to school aged children.
