HOARDINGS were removed to open the first stage of the Maude Street Mall redevelopment to the public over the weekend.

The standout of Stage 1 is the brand new, brightly coloured play space which features steppingstones, a slide, and climbing equipment. Also completed under this stage of the planned works was demolition and excavation, concreting, landscaping, and in-ground service works.

To celebrate this important milestone, Greater Shepparton City Council held a family-friendly event on Saturday in Fraser Street. As well as the opportunity to try out the recently completed play equipment, there was also live music and free kids’ activities to add to the festivities.

Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe said the idea to hold celebrations at the completion of each of the stages came from consultation with Mall business owners.

“It is a great way to invite the community back into the area and will be a fantastic, free event for families and anyone interested in the project,” she said.

Some local retailers and traders had organised special offerings for shoppers to mark the occasion. Traders in the Mall are open for business and operating as usual throughout the redevelopment.

Works continue at the Mall, but the new playground remains open to the public and residents are encouraged to support businesses in the precinct during the works.
