Footy in the name of a good cause

SHOUT A MEMBERSHIP...Rochester Football Netball Club are inviting those living outside their community to 'Shout a Membership'. The aim is to raise enough money so that any local person who wants to attend home games – even if only a few times - can be given a membership card. Photo: Supplied

MANY players, members, supporters of the Rochester Football Netball Club, as well as townspeople, are still suffering the long-term impacts of last October’s floods.

The majority of the town is displaced, with people living in caravans, finding a room with friends and family, or being forced to relocate out of town. Their shared spaces have been affected, with common meeting areas such as the library, community house, Men’s Shed, and hospital still out of action.

RFNC is a sporting club, but they are about more than footy and netball, they want to bring people together and provide a safe, inclusive space for everyone – even if you’ve never been to the footy before.

They believe sport is an incredible vehicle for social connection. Whether it’s cheering your team on, having a beer, or just dropping in to be amongst people who get what you’re going through, they want you to feel welcome.

With that in mind, they are inviting those living outside their community to ‘Shout a Membership’. The aim is to raise enough money so that any local person who wants to attend home games – even if only a few times – can be given a membership card.
