Give the gift of life this Easter: donate and burn calories equivalent to 12 mini-Easter eggs

AS Easter approaches, many Australians will indulge in sweet treats and long weekends. However, while the holiday period may be a break from routine for some, the need for blood donations never takes a break. Lifeblood, Australia’s national blood donation service, is urging people to give the gift of life this Easter by donating blood.

And for those who need an extra incentive, donating blood burns approximately 500 calories, the equivalent of 12 mini-Easter eggs. So, while treating your taste buds to chocolate, you can also help those in need.

Lifeblood needs 5,300 donors to fill the donation chairs to meet the demand for blood and blood products during the Easter period, which includes trauma and emergency patients, women in childbirth, and people being treated for cancer. One donation can save up to three lives.

In addition to helping those in need, donating blood has positive effects on the donor’s mood. A study found that donors felt less stress and more joy as they progressed through their donation.

Lifeblood has made donating easier than ever with the DonateBlood app, allowing donors to book appointments for themselves and a friend at the same centre.

So, this Easter, take an hour out of your holiday and give the gift of life by donating blood. To book an appointment, call 13 14 95, book online at lifeblood.com.au, or use the DonateBlood app.

Shepparton Donor Centre is located at Unit 3, 210 – 216 Corio St Coles Carpark, entrance via Vaughan St, Shepparton.
