WHETHER you want to supplement your retirement income, renovate or modify your home, cover healthcare costs, consolidate existing debts, or simply have more money to travel and enjoy retirement, accessing the equity in your home may be an option.

Experienced local mortgage broker Simon Quattrocchi says reverse mortgages can allow eligible older Australians to access some of the wealth tied up in their home without having to sell or move.

“Funds can be provided as a lump sum, regular payments, a cash reserve to draw on when needed, or a combination of these options,” said Simon.

One of the key benefits is that borrowers generally do not need to make regular repayments while the loan is in place. Instead, the loan balance, including accumulated interest and fees, is usually repaid when the property is sold.

Importantly, borrowers continue to own and live in their home, provided they meet the loan conditions.

Reverse mortgages also come with a No Negative Equity Guarantee, meaning you or your estate will not owe more than the sale proceeds of the home when the loan is repaid. Any remaining equity belongs to you or your estate.

However, reverse mortgages are not suitable for everyone, and getting professional advice is important before making any decisions.

Simon can help seniors understand their options and determine whether accessing home equity could support their retirement goals.
