GV Croquet Association win in Benalla

THE Annual Inter-Regional Golf Croquet event, hosted between the GVCA (Goulburn Valley Croquet Association) and the NEDCA (North East District) was Friday, November 12 in wintery conditions at Benalla. Twelve players from each region, divided into three divisions play two doubles and two singles games.

The GVCA Team were:
Division 1: Russell Smyth (Rich River), John James (Deniliquin), Trevor Peters (Echuca Moama) and John Young (Shepparton)….team Captain
Division 2: Mary James (Deniliquin), Dave Maher (Rich River), Anne Dodd (Rich River) and Phil Betts (Shepparton).
Division 3: Alan Holding (Rich River), Margaret Sullivan (Kyabram), Trish Pedrotti (Shepparton) and Helen Brierley (Rich River).

The NEDCA Team were:
Division 1: Kevin Maloney (Twin City), Allan Holt (Beechworth), John Collins and Michael Matthews (Albury).
Division 2: Rod Bensley (Howlong), Dawn McQuilton (Wodonga), Kathie Maloney (Twin City) and Janet Kelly (Wangaratta).
Division 3: Lorraine Johnston (Wangaratta), Anne Dodd (Wangaratta), Doug Nielsen (Howlong) and Veronica Richardson(Walla Walla).
The match was very even throughout the day with the NEDCA team surging ahead at the half way mark. At the end of play, the defending champions, GVCA, were victorious with 20 games, 209 hoops to NEDCA 16 games 205 hoops.
Division 1: NEDCA 5 games – 68 hoops, GVCA 7 games 75 hoops.
Division 2: NEDCA 6 games 71 hoops, GVCA 6 games 66 hoops.
Division 3: NEDCA 5 games 66 hoops, GVCA 7 games 68 hoops.
Many thanks to the NEDCA clubs for coming together to organise the day, which is now one of the highlights on the croquet calendar.
