THE Munarra Centre for Regional Excellence (MCRE) recently hosted a public lecture presented through the Gabra Biik Wurruwila Wutja Indigenous Research Centre at La Trobe University, featuring Harvard University Professor Philip J. Deloria.

Professor Deloria is the Leverett Saltonstall Professor of History at Harvard University. His research and teaching focus on the social, cultural and political histories of relationships between American Indian peoples and the United States, as well as global Indigenous histories and connections.

The lecture explored the art and legacy of Professor Deloria’s great-aunt, Mary Sully, a Native American artist whose distinctive work is increasingly recognised for its unique contribution to Indigenous art and cultural history.
