Heavy rain prompts flood watch

IT has been a wet start to the week, with 12.8mm of rain recorded in Shepparton in the 24 hours to 9am Tuesday, June 30, and further rainfall forecast across much of the week.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Flood Watch for parts of north-east and central Victoria, warning that minor to moderate flooding is likely from Tuesday, with isolated major flooding possible.

Catchments that may be affected include the Upper Murray and Mitta Mitta rivers, Ovens and King rivers, Broken River, Broken Creek, Seven and Castle Creeks, and the Goulburn River between Eildon and Seymour.

Localised flash flooding has been reported across various areas, including Rushworth.

The 12.8mm recorded to 9am Tuesday already exceeds the wettest day recorded in Shepparton during June last year, when 11.6mm fell on June 8. A total of 54.4mm was recorded across June 2025, while 66.6mm has been recorded in Shepparton so far this month.
