IT may not be beach or river weather, but don’t let that render these school holidays a relentless loop of too much television and pyjama days.
There is plenty to do around the Goulburn Valley, with Shepparton Marketplace, Greater Shepparton City Council and other local organisations offering plenty of free and low-cost school holiday fun.
On the days you don’t have anything booked in, here are some ideas to keep boredom at bay:
Rug up and enjoy a bushwalk
Get a backpack together with some lunch, dress in your winter woolies and head out to any of the many walking tracks and trails around town. Some examples are the Australian Botanic Gardens, Cudgee Park and Boulevard Bush Reserve just to name a few.
Big day out in a small town
Being a regional city, we sometimes forget the quaint and beautiful towns we have access to within such a short drive. Make a day of it and enjoy local parks and eateries in towns such a Rushworth, Murchison, Tatura and even those further out.
Home, but make it exciting
Some days you intend to get out but life has other plans. Nothing like no one being able to find their shoes or a torrential downpour striking just as you’re ready to leave to make you want to throw in the towel and stay home. Play hide and seek, bake something yummy, have a ‘race’ to see who can pick up toys fastest and if you are down for some screen time, mock up a home cinema by using couch cushions and beanbags (whatever you have on hand), make warm popcorn and bribe your children to watch a movie from when you were little to make the experience just as fun for you.
