SHANE Sali was elected to be the new mayor of the city of Greater Shepparton on Thursday.

This will be Cr Sali’s first time serving as mayor since being elected to the Council in 2020. He will serve as mayor for the remaining period of the current term alongside deputy mayor, Cr Anthony Brophy.

In Cr Sali’s mayoral address following the election, he said he was excited for the next steps as mayor and continuing to strengthen Greater Shepparton’s stance as a dynamic and prosperous regional city.

“I look forward to working hard together to deliver the important things that matter most for our region,” he said.

“We should be very proud of where we are, we are the benchmark. Greater Shepparton must continue to lead the way.

“I look forward to taking Greater Shepparton to greater heights. I will continue to work hard for the things that matter most and to position Greater Shepparton as the ultimate destination.”

Cr Sali was elected at an additional Council meeting, which was called following Cr Kim O’Keeffe resigning her position as mayor on Monday, June 6. Cr O’Keeffe has applied for a Leave of Absence, which came into effect at 5pm on Friday, June 10 and will continue until the results of the upcoming state election have been declared.
