FIVE men have been charged after “thousands of cannabis plants” were seized at a property in Toolamba last Wednesday.
Shepparton police Divisional Tasking Unit conducted a search warrant at the Waugh Road property around 9am on Wednesday, February 9, as part of an ongoing investigation.
Five men were taken into custody and they have since been charged with cultivating a large commercial quantity of cannabis.
“I would say it is probably one of the largest seizures of hydroponically grown cannabis in Victorian history,” said Victoria Police inspector Ashley Mason. “The value would be in the millions.”
As a result, the property has been under constant police guard until the CFA reportedly incinerated the plants on the property recently.
Inspector Ashley Mason would like to remind the community, “Cannabis is an illicit substance, and we will continue our efforts to investigate the illicit cultivation and trafficking on any illicit drug.”
