STUDENTS from Toolamba Primary School have impressed the judges of Dairy Australia’s national education program Picasso Cows with their entry Moolamba. They were one of 35 schools across Australia that were accepted to participate in the program that runs twice a year.

The program ran for 10 weeks and consisted of a set curriculum taught to students about the dairy industry, either Farm to Plate or Health and Nutrition. They spent three weeks learning about the importance and health benefits of dairy.

The students had to design and paint a cow to show all they had learned. Toolamba had previously learnt about the pop art elements of bold colours, black outlines and word explosions in term 2 and decided this would be a great way to paint a bright and engaging cow.

“I am so proud of how enthusiastic and engaged the students were in the program, and how every idea came from them. They were at the centre of every step in the journey, to deciding what should go on it, to designing each product, to painting every single colour,” said Carly Tuhan of Toolamba Primary School.

Their cow was chosen to represent the Picasso Cow program at the Dairy Australia conference last November, before returning to Toolamba Primary School to retire to a nice grassy area near the art room for everyone to admire.
