New home for Foodshare on the cards

SHEPPARTON Foodshare are still seeking a permanent home. The crucial local service that has helped the community tremendously over the past 24 months needs to find a permanent base from which they can continue operations.

The Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell used the last parliamentary sitting week for 2021 to again seek a funding commitment from the Andrews Labor Government that will build a new home for Shepparton Foodshare.

After last raising the issue in September, in her latest contribution Ms Lovell highlighted the significant role played by Shepparton Foodshare in co-ordinating food distribution during August’s COVID-19 outbreak in Greater Shepparton and sought a commitment from current Minister James Merlino of $950,000 for the organisation.

Shepparton Foodshare are purchasing land utilising their own funds and the State Government funding will build a new fit-for-purpose facility that will allow for upscale, and expansion should the need arise in the future.

“Funding for a new home for Shepparton Foodshare would be a fitting way for the Andrews Labor Government to say thank you for the organisation’s wonderful work helping thousands of Greater Shepparton families forced to home quarantine during the August COVID outbreak,” said Ms Lovell.
