STUDENTS and staff at Notre Dame College came together for a special assembly to mark National Reconciliation Week, held annually from May 27 to June 3.

The week commemorates two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey: the successful 1967 referendum and the 1992 Mabo decision, which recognised the land rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The assembly provided an opportunity for the school community to reflect on the importance of respect, understanding and strengthening relationships between First Nations peoples and the wider Australian community. Through special guest speakers and student participation, the event encouraged meaningful conversations about truth-telling, unity and working together towards a more reconciled future.
