Women aged 18 and over will soon be able to access the oral contraceptive pill directly from participating pharmacies without a prescription.
From July, the service will be available at around 850 Chemist Care Now pharmacies across Victoria, aiming to improve access, particularly in regional and rural areas where GP appointments can be harder to secure.

Consultations with trained pharmacists will be free, with patients paying only for the medication. Pharmacists must complete additional training and conduct a consultation before supplying the pill, including discussing risks and alternative contraception options.
