MEMBER for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell and Liberal candidate Steve Brooks have urged the Victorian Government to fund the completion of GV Health’s Integrated Cancer Centre (ICC).
The Federal Government has allocated $30M toward the design and to begin construction of the ICC, but so far, the State Government has not provided funding to complete the project.
A fully funded ICC would bring all oncology services under one roof at the Shepparton hospital and has been identified as a top priority for GV Health as it is the only major regional health service without an ICC.
Despite spending $2M towards planning for Stage 2 of the GV Health redevelopment, the Victorian Government has been criticised for stalling the second phase of development and claiming the job was complete when only Stage 1 of the redevelopment has been constructed.
Ms Lovell has recently spoken in parliament calling on the Minister for Health to commit to funding the ICC at GV Health.
“Labor betrayed Shepparotn when the Health Minister reneged on Stage 2 of the GV Health redevelopment, but I never gave up fighting for the Integrated Cancer Centre to bring all oncology services under one roof at the hospital,” she said.
Mr Brooks said it was time the State Government committed to paying its fair share.
“The Federal Government has invested in an Integrated Cancer Centre at Goulburn Valley Health, and now the Victorian Government must do its part and provide the necessary funding to complete the cancer centre,” he said.
